Date - 18th June 2008
Dear Parents/Guardians
Welcome to our newsletter for the month of June.
Green Schools - It was a real thrill for everyone in our school when we raised our second Green Flag this week. This flag was presented for our work in the area of Energy Conservation. Huge thanks must go to Ms. McWalter and all those on the Green School Committee for their hard work in making this possible. We would also like to thank the Parents Association for supporting the occasion in so many ways and to Mr. Jason Jenkinson for donating ice-cream to the whole school afterwards. I think that got the biggest cheer of the day.
Class Allocation - Classes have been allocated for the coming year. A class list is attached to this newsletter. We are very much looking forward to the new year and all the challenges ahead.
New Pre-fabs - Two classes will move into new pre-fabs in the coming year to cope with our ever expanding numbers. We plan to install the buildings over the summer and intend that the work will be completed well in advance of our return. With building work there is always the possibility of some delay which may be outside the schools control. If this occurs the children will use the school hall in the short term until the rooms are ready.
Junior Infants - Next years Junior Infants came to visit us on two afternoons last week. It was a pleasure to meet them and their parents at this exciting time as they start a new phase of their lives and they are all very welcome.
Book Lists - Next years booklists will be sent home this Friday. Please return them to the present teacher by Monday the 23rd of June. Books will be available for collection on Monday the 25th, Tuesday the 26th and Wednesday the 27th of August between 10 o'clock and I o'clock each day in the school shop. Book lists for Junior Infants are organised in the month of September.
Parents Association - We have purchased a great deal of new teaching aids and class resources to support or reading and phonics programmes in the Junior classes. Thanks to the Parents Association for financing this through the voluntary contribution. We would like to wish Ms.Anne Cleary who has recently retired as Chairperson of the Parents Association after many years supporting our school. It feels like the end of an era and we wish Anne well in the future. We would also like to welcome Ms. Theresa Ryan as she takes on the role of Chairperson of the Association.
Sports Day - Due to the size of the school we now have a Junior Sports Day and a Senior Sports Day. These days are very much enjoyed by the children. Thanks are due to Ms. O'Boyle for all her hard work in co-ordinating the events. The Junior day took place last week and was thoroughly enjoyed by all while the Well done to Ms. Talty and all the athletes who participated in the Dublin Athletics Championships. They were a credit to the school.
GreenClean - Thanks to GreenClean and Derek Boardman for providing us with a skip to clean a particular area of the school grounds. It was very much appreciated.
Summer Concert - The school concert is traditionally one of the highlights of the year. This year it will take place on Tuesday the 24th and Wednesday the zs" of.June. Proceeds will be split, as is tradition, between the school and a charity identified by the 6th class children. The children have chosen the Guide Dogs Association of Ireland this year, a very worthy cause. Thanks to Ms. McCabe for her support in co-ordinating the event. Six classes will perform each night as follows.
