Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to our newsletter for the month of March.

Seachtain na Gaeilge: The boys and girls have been involved in a host of activities for the past fortnight related to ‘Seachtain na Gaeilge’. Activities organised for the week include a ‘seo faisean’ (fashion show) ‘as gaeilge’, a ‘trath na gceist’ (quiz) for the senior classes, ‘comortas ealaine’ (art competition) with prizes sponsored by the Village Store and ceili dancing. Thanks to Ms. Bates for all her hard work in organising these events for the children’s enjoyment.

Sport: Well done to the boys and girls football teams who are playing so well in their respective leagues and to the teachers coaching them. Their behaviour on and off the field is a credit to the school.

Visit of Author: Thanks to author Derek Landy for giving so freely of his time to speak to the children in the senior classes regarding his work and particularly his novel ‘Skulduggery Pleasant’. The visit was enjoyed by young and old alike.

Greenschools: The children in fourth class spent an enjoyable day tree planting in Turvey Avenue last week. The fashion in wellies was a sight to behold. Our project to encourage children to walk to school is continuing.

Homework Policy: As mentioned last month we have reviewed our Homework Policy and hope it has some useful tips for parents and pupils alike.

Hand Writing Competition: Well done to all the children who entered the National Handwriting Competition. The quality of work presented by the children was excellent. Thanks to Ms. Jordan for her hard work in co-ordinating the entries.

Round Towers GAA: Many thanks to our local GAA club for presenting the school with a new set of portable goals. They will be well used by the children both in training sessions and in school matches.

Support for Reading: As you know we are encouraging as many of our children to read for pleasure as possible and have invested heavily in new books for their enjoyment. It has been a real pleasure to see the number of parents who are now coming to the school to listen to the children’s reading. I know the children are very much enjoying it.

Finally we would like to wish everyone a happy St. Patricks Day and an enjoyable Easter Break.

Regards,

Paul Comiskey.
