Dear Parents/ Guardians,
Welcome to another newsletter. School life is extremely busy as always as you will see from the items below.
Sport - GAA - Congratulations to the Boys and Girls Gaelic Football teams which got to the Fingal Schools Finals this week. They did the school proud with two wonderful performances and congratulations to all teachers and pupils involved. The boys lost narrowly in a very exciting match while the girls turned in a great performance to bring the cup home. This is the first time our girl's team have won so well done to everyone. Thanks also to the Parents Association for their hard work in preparing tea and sandwiches for everyone on their return to the school and giving a donation to help with transporting the team and fans. Thanks must also go to all the parents who give up their time to support their children at matches and provide the lifts to bring children around the county.
Soccer - We would like to thank Lusk United for their generous donation of a set of jerseys for our fourth class soccer team. This is the first time we have had a school soccer team for many years and we are very excited at the prospect.
Sports Day Ms. O'Boyle and Ms. Talty plan to hold two Sports Days for the Junior classes and the senior classes over the coming weeks. These days are weather dependent so parents will be let know closer to the time. It is always a good idea to give your child plenty afliquids and a hat if they will be outdoors for the day .
Junior Infant Parent Meeting - The parents of our incoming Junior Infant classes next September are invited to a meeting in the school hall on May 27th at 8.00. This will be a chance for the parents to meet some of the Infant teachers, our Parents Association and members of our Board and take an opportunity to discuss the year ahead.
First Holy Communion - The children of second class will be celebrating their First Holy Communion at 10.30 this coming Saturday. We are very much looking forward to this special occasion. As normal we invite the children and their families back to the school hall for a cup of tea and chat after the ceremony. Many of the local community who normally help with the tea are not available this year as their own children or grandchildren are involved in the celebration. If any parent of children in First Class has some time on Saturday morning to help out could they please let the Parents Association know or contact Pearl in the office so that we can keep up this lovely tradition.
Music - The school choir has worked very hard to prepare for the First Penance and the First Holy Communion ceremony. Well done to Ms. Fay and all the children involved. They always sound wonderful.
Food Dudes Phase two of the Food Dudes Project is ongoing at the moment. We are delighted with the amount of children who are bringing fruit and vegetables to school. We would also like to say to all parents that in these difficult economic times we would not like anyone to feel under pressure to purchase expensive fruit that would not normally part of the weekly shopping.
Book Fair- The Book Fair is taking place this week. There is a great selection of books available at what seem like very good prices. Please feel free to come along and have a look. The school receives a significant donation of books through the fair so than you very much to Ms. Murtagh for organizing the event and the Parents Association for helping it to run so smoothly.
Artist in Residence - The project is in full swing at present and the children seem to be thoroughly enjoying the work. We are very much looking forward to admiring their work next month.
New Computers - Ms. White has completed an inventory of computer needs for each class. While the computer room is well provided for many of the computers in the classes are outdated. We have ordered seventeen new computers to replace the older models and hope to have them installed before the summer.
Policies The Gifted and Talented Students Policy has been ratified by the Board and is available in the school office.
Parking - We would ask the very small number of parents who park in the Scout Den to please desist as it causes great concern to the Scouts Unit. Thank you very much for your co-operation.
Regards,
Paul Comiskey.
